Occupational Therapy students back from India

Caitlin Heraghty from Fanad, and her fellow occupational therapy peers, Abbie McNulty, Michelle Curran and Ciara Murray would like to share that they are now back from our volunteering placement in India. The girls would like to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who donated to the GoFundMe and supported them in making this trip possible. Special thanks to the staff at Milford Mart for organising and hosting an auction of AI straws, to everyone who donated straws to be auctioned off, as well as all who bid and bought on the day. The community spirit and generosity shown through this made such a significant impact. The success of the auction played a major role in allowing the to achieve so much during their time in India. With the funds raised they were able to: Purchase and bring out a large amount of occupational therapy supplies, toys, games, and stationary; Purchase additional stationary locally in India for schools; Provide a special needs orphanage with a generator and batteries, a battery trolley, TV, and two large storage cabinets; Completely furnish a newly established school in a slum with tables and chairs, carpets, two large storage cabinets, a TV, a generator, a clean water filter, games, and stationary; Donate an ultrasound machine and an inferential therapy (IFT) machine to a physiotherapist at a local NGO charitable hospital; Carry out a large food donation, providing 350 bags each of rice, flour, and potatoes, as well as over 500 bananas, to two old peoples homes, two slum communities, an industrial slum area, and a refugee camp. Thank you once again for your incredible support and this placement was a life-changing experience for the four girls and was only made possible through everyone’s generosity.
