Surveying to begin on Vacant & Derelict properties in Ramelton

Local Councillor Pauric McGarvey has announced that following his motions to Donegal County Council they have given the go ahead for surveying to begin on the vacant and derelict properties in Ramelton. He said with an engineer appointed and surveying to begin in the coming weeks the survey should begin this month. “At the end of last year, Ramelton had been selected as the next settlement with priority in the Letterkenny/Milford Municipal District to address in a manner similar to what has been done very successfully in Letterkenny Town Centre to date. This will involve carrying out a survey which will identify vacant/derelict properties in Ramelton ‘town centre’ and will extend the survey work along the Shore Road, The Quays & Bridge Street. Following identification of the properties, DCC will then aim to identify the owners of each identified property and attempt to make contact and meet with them in order to advise of any available supports that are there to assist them with bringing those properties back into productive use. Where properties meet the definition of a ‘derelict site’ and where no demonstrated commitment is given by the owners to either activate those properties themselves or to put those properties on the open market, those properties will be added to the Council’s Derelict Sites Register. Then those properties/sites will be subject to an annual levy which will be calculated at 7% of the market value of the site. I wish to thank the Regeneration & Development team of Donegal County Council, for listening and for their commitment and work to date and look forward to working with them in bringing Ramelton’s buildings back to life to regenerate the town,” he concluded.
